Surfing is probably the hardest watersport to do. It's the hardest to learn and the hardest to perfect. You can surf for decades and still not know everything there is to know about surfing. Being a good surfer starts with knowing where you're surfing and what kind of surfboard you'll need for the conditions. If you take a fish board to a big wave area, you're probably going to run into problems, no matter how good you are.
There's more to surfing than just grabbing a surfboard and going full speed at a wave. Equipment that you can use in surfing includes a leash, surf wax, traction pads, and fins, which can be permanently attached or replacable. When the water temperature is warm swimsuits or boardshorts are usually sufficient, but when the water gets frigid, most surfers wear wetsuits, boots, hoods, and gloves to keep themselves warm. As long as the water isn't iced up, it can be surfed!
